Transplants are needed when an organ can no longer function on its own due to cancer, accidents, or illness. Common transplants today include that of the liver, pancreas, lungs, heart, and kidneys. Transplanting the organ is only half the battle: keeping the body from rejecting it is the other.  Any number of reasons could cause rejection, including improper blood typing or improper tissue typing. The key to a successful transplant will depend on the individual and the viability of the organ. Immunosuppressant therapy is vital to the transplant but it must also be carefully monitored in order to prevent infection from setting in.

Although each person will respond differently to transplant medications, the following is a list of some common side effects:

Signs and Symptoms

  • Nausea
  • Chills
  • Body aches
  • Cough
